D51 Foundation to Receive The Giving Club’s First $20K+ Gift

For Immediate Release

The Giving Club will make its largest-ever quarterly gift to the D51 Foundation on Thursday, February 16 when the Foundation holds its Board of Directors’ meeting at 11:30 a.m. (Board Room at Alpine Bank, 5th and Rood in Grand Junction).  The Giving Club members have provided gifts totaling $20,100 to further D51 Foundation’s mission “to support academic growth and achievement, and promote outreach to benefit the kids of Mesa County Valley School District #51.”

“We are thrilled to make an award this large to the D51 Foundation,” says Illene Roggensack, Co-Founder of The Giving Club.  “This is our eleventh meeting since the Club started in August 2014, when we made our first gifts totaling $8,500.  Since then, we’ve realized steady and impressive growth in our membership, and now are on task to contribute a total of more than $185,000 in our first three years.  It’s a significant number, and we really are quite proud of it.”

Members of The Giving Club utilize a simple nominating process to consider three organizations for receipt of donations, with the full membership voting to determine one agency to receive all contributions.  Club members pledge to make four-$100 tax-deductible contributions annually.  “Each member of the Club makes a modest but important contribution each quarter, creating a collective gift capable of some real impact,” says Roggensack.  “We now have 186 women involved, and were able to kick in a few more dollars from residual hospitality fees to put this gift to the D51 Foundation up over the $20,000 mark; a terrific milestone for us!”

A large pile of $100 checks will be presented to the D51 Foundation Board of Directors by several members of The Giving Club on Thursday, “and it’s all the more special because two of our Club members – Anne Nederveld and Angela Christensen – also are part of the Foundation leadership team,” says Roggensack.  “We do hope the D51 Foundation is as honored by these gifts as we are proud to give them.”

The Giving Club has been instrumental to starting two similar clubs – Guys’ Giving Club and The Giving Club of Montrose (all women).  “Among us, we awarded $35,000 to three different nonprofits in a 24-hour period last week,” says Roggensack.   “This means we’ve gathered 350 people who are genuinely excited to write $100 checks to organizations they believe are vital contributors to our local quality of life.  It feels good to be involved with such a group of women and men.”

The next gathering of The Giving Clubs and Guys’ Giving Club are scheduled for Monday (women) and Tuesday (men), May 1 and 2; subsequent 2017 meetings will be held on the first Mondays and Tuesdays in August and November.  New members are welcome; for additional information and membership applications:  Judy Vanderleest at 260-6140 or www.gjgivingclub.org or This email address is being protected from spambots.
