09 Nov D51F Distributes 9th Round of Bloom Where You Are Planted Grants
The District 51 Foundation is pleased to announce the distribution of the ninth round of Bloom Where You Are Planted Grants. This grant provides K-12 students with financial need the support to allow them to pursue extracurricular activities. Through this cycle of the grant fund, the D51 Foundation was able to provide grants for 67 students for a total amount over $4,600. Since the beginning of 2020, approximately $25,000 has been granted to 308 children. Students and parents apply for the grant via a portal at the D51 Foundation website. Some of the extracurricular grants were for Little Warriors Wrestling Team, Grand Junction Fire FC Soccer, Code Ninjas, and swim lessons at the Fruita Parks and Recreation Center.
“This fund means more than a legacy for one family; it provides memories and development opportunities for youth. When we say the youth is our future, this is how we help to build a good one, by giving them the opportunity to gain new skills, build healthy habits and relationships, and enrich their lives,” stated Laura Bloom, daughter of the late Karl Bloom.
This grant fund was created by the family of Karl Bloom who passed away in February of 2020. Karl’s life was an example to so many people about how to give back to your community. He was a dedicated local volunteer in Scouting, HOSA, and a band parent. “
This year, the D51 Foundation has committed $6,000 to help continue to support this fund that’s making such a difference to the students who receive these grants. In addition to distributing grants, the D51 Foundation is always seeking donors interesting in keeping this fund going into the future. We know this has touched the hearts of so many children in our community,” noted Angela Christensen, D51 Foundation Executive Director.
