09 Feb D51F Distributes 6th Round of “Bloom Where You Are Planted” Grants
The District 51 Foundation is pleased to announce the distribution of the sixth round of Bloom Where You Are Planted Grants. This grant fund was created by the family of Karl Bloom who passed away in February of 2020. Karl’s life was an example to so many people about how to give back to your community. He was a dedicated local volunteer in Scouting, HOSA, and a band parent. This grant provides K-12 students with financial need the support to allow them to pursue extracurricular activities.
“Giving back is what life is all about! Extracurricular activities help kids grow and explore their interests and passions while learning dedication and hard work. Activities keep kids engaged and help to create well-rounded adults. This year it is more important than ever to get kids involved in extracurricular activities. We are so blessed to have been able to do this, and invite others to help us keep the momentum going with donations to the Fund. We know Karl is smiling down – and he had a great smile – and is pleased to see each of these kids enjoying and participating in such a variety of activities,” says Theresa Bloom, wife of the late Karl Bloom.
Through this cycle of the grant fund, the D51 Foundation was able to provide grants for 43 students for a total amount over $3,300. Since the beginning of 2020, approximately $14,200 has been granted to 155
children. Students and parents apply for the grant via a portal at the D51 Foundation website. The next round will open up later this spring. Some of the extracurricular grants were to Fire FC Soccer Club, Girls on the Run, Outdoor Wilderness Lab, and Absolute Dance.
“We are thankful to the Bloom Family for their dedication to help support extracurricular activities. So many students don’t have the funds to participate in extracurricular activities, and this makes it a little easier. It has already made such a positive difference to students throughout Mesa County,” adds Angela Christensen, Ph.D., School District 51 Foundation Executive Director.
